Child Transportation
Staff works with parents to assist them with their transportation needs, through networking within the community.
 
Due to the unique design of the Migrant Head Start program, transportation is provided.
 
Community Partnerships
Staff works closely with community agencies to improve the delivery of community services to families and facilitate the transition of children into Head Start and public schools.
 
Volunteers are an important part of Head Start. They improve and expand services offered.
 
Volunteers are actively recruited to participate in all service areas of Head Start.
 
Services to Pregnant Women
CAPCA Head Start provides services to pregnant women through encouragement, referrals to appropriate health care providers, and assistance with transportation for appointments as necessary.
 
Families receive prenatal and post natal packets that include information on fetal development, breast-feeding, baby care, safety tips, and sample products.
 
Expectant mothers may contact the Center Manager.
 
Bilingual Services
Agency forms, handbooks and newsletters are translated to meet the needs of families in their primary language.
 
A variety of resources and Lending Library materials are available in both English and Spanish.
 
Bilingual staff and/or volunteers are utilized to strengthen communication with families.
 
Transitions
Transition activities include the process of entering into the program, addressing special needs, transition within Head Start, and the process of leaving the program.
 
Head Start promotes the continued involvement of parents in education and development of their child upon Transition to public school.
 
Staff provides education and training for parents to prepare them to exercise their rights and responsibilities in the public school setting.
 
Emergency Evacuation Procedures
In center based programs all staff, volunteers, and children participate in monthly emergency drills.
 
The purpose of these drills is to teach children, staff, and volunteers what to do in case of violence, a fire, storm, or earthquake.
 
Information about procedures is posted on a bulletin board labeled EMERGENCY.
 
Please note emergency evacuation plans when you visit the centers.
 
Clothing for Children
Outside play (when weather permits) is an important part of a child's day at the center.
 
Parents are asked to consider the weather when dressing their child.
 
Parents are also asked to provide an extra set of clothing in case their child's clothing becomes soiled. 
 
Disability Services
In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, CAPCA Head Start does not discriminate on the basis of a disability. The Disabilities Coordinator is designated to ensure compliance with Section 504/ADA
 
CAPCA Head Start makes every effort to ensure that parents have a full understanding of all benefits or services of the program and of all the written materials concerning consent or waiver of rights
 
Modifications, including auxiliary aids, will be made, as necessary; to address specific disability needs of parents or guardians.
 
Family Partnerships
Staff and families work together to identify strengths and needs and to establish family goals. Resources are identified to assist families accessing services.
 
Parents are recognized as the primary educator and advocate for their child and are encouraged to be actively involved in program policy-making, a wide range of educational activities, and community advocacy.
 
Health Screenings
Screening includes vision, hearing, developmental, speech and a physical and dental exam.
 
These screenings are important to help us know if your child has any health needs.
 
If there is a reason to believe your child has health needs, steps are taken to provide the necessary follow-up.
 
Parents are responsible for accompanying their child to all medical/dental appointments and for keeping all follow-up appointments as needed.
 
Illnesses
Head Start does not have the facilities to care for ill children.
 
If a child shows signs of illness, they should not be sent to Head Start.
 
If a child becomes ill at Head Start, they are isolated and the parent is notified to come and get their child.
 
If a child is absent because of illness, parents are asked to call and state the nature of the child's illness.
 
Other parents may need to be notified in case of a contagious condition.
 
Immunizations
All Head Start Children are required to be current on their immunizations in order to remain in the classroom.
 
Child Mental Health
Activities, services and referrals are provided to promote positive mental health.
 
A mental health consultant is available for Head Start families to obtain individual assistance is requested.
 
Food Service
Meals served in centers are planned to meet at least one-third of the child's daily nutritional needs.
 
All children including infants and toddlers receive food appropriate to their nutritional needs.
 
Developmental readiness, and feeding skills.
 
Children, staff, and volunteers eat together family style and share the same menu to the extent possible.
 
Food and nutrition educational activities are provided for children and parents.
 
Child Health and Safety
Staff is trained to respond to medical and dental emergencies.
 
Pedestrian Safety is taught and systems are in place to respond to emergencies such as fire, earthquake, tornado, etc.
 
Policies are in place to prevent the spread of contagious diseases and to address child safety issues.
 
Education and Early Childhood Development
Developmentally appropriate activities are provided for infant, toddler, and preschool children to help them develop language, socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical skills.
Activities are provided for parents to increase their knowledge of child development and early child hood education.
 
Parents and staff form a school readiness partnership to ensure a child is ready and eager to learn in kindergarten.
 
Health and Developement
Physical and dental exams as well as vision hearing, developmental, and speech screenings for each enrolled child.
 
In cooperation with parents and community professionals, plans are developed and services provide for children with special needs.
